The Hoi An Foundation is a nonprofit organization started in 2003 to help care for the children of the Hoi An Orphanage in Vietnam. Josh Solomon started the organization after spending a year traveling through Southeast Asia. Early in his travels he found himself in the town of Hoi An, south of Da Nang on the South China Sea. There he met Robyn Morely, an Australian woman living in the town and representing Colour 4 Kids at the Hoi An Orphanage. He intended to volunteer for a week and ended up staying 8 months. During his time he worked both with Colour 4 Kids from the Netherlands and the Kianh Foundation from England. He worked with many volunteers from around the world whose goal was to better the lives of the children in the orphanage.

After returning to the United States, he formed the organization to continue the projects for the children. The Hoi An Foundation works closely with the Kianh Foundation and Jackie Wrafter, the founder and representative at the orphanage. Together the two organizations are working to improve the health and general well being of the children as well help secure a productive future in the Vietnamese community.

In 2006 Josh moved to Viet Nam to continue the work there. In addition to the projects at the orphanage, the Hoi An Foundation has started projects in the Hoi An community aimed at the health and well being of disadvantaged in the area. These projects have expanded to include people with hearing impairment, HIV infection, chronic medical diseases, health prevention, and rehabilitation for children with disabilities. All of this work is done with the cooperation of people from many different countries who share a common goal to help the disadvantaged in central Viet Nam.
